"Women are of two kinds, the mother kind and the beloved kind- so i have heard some learned men say."
-Rabindranath Tagore, Two Sisters

I am a voracious reader. i read anything an everything other than mills and boons... some people acll me crazy because i need something to read even when i am eating... even if it is some stupid article in the newspaper... And thus it is a surprise to myslelf that i had never read anything by Rabindranath Tagore, the only man of complete indian origin and who resided in india, who has won a nobel prize for literature. and it was even worse, beacuse i didn't ahve the excuse of the language barrier, myself being a bong and well i can read bengali script. But since i am not so fluent, i considered it to be a rather tedious job to pick up some great work of literature where i'd have to stop every few lines owing to my poor fluency.
Recently, however i did pick up an english translation of the book "dui bon", literally: two sisters and it was an amazing read. Having already mentioned the first line of the book above, i don't think i have ever read a more fantastic opening to a book...
It is about how men always desire the beloved kind but actually are in need of the mother. It is a beautiful representation of relationships between men and women. It is a story of love, betrayal, compromise and a wonderful tale of sacrifice for the strongest bond on this planet- sisterhood.
And since i am making a desperate effort to make this book sound amazing and at the same time not give away the storyline, i will end this post by saying that Tagore has represented infidelity (in a way) in the most sophisticated manner ever and i doubt anyone can make it sound so acceptable.
